Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the National Championship Game. The injury occurred during the second quarter of the game against Georgia and forced Williams to leave the game. He was examined by trainers at the sideline and eventually walked to the locker room. The injury was not serious enough to require surgery, so he will be able to play again. However, the impact of Williams’ injury could affect his future NFL career.

Although Williams has been out of action since the game, the injury has ignited a debate about the future of turf fields. After the game, Georgia HC Kirby Smart questioned Saban about the decision to have Jameson Williams miss the game. The team that drafts Williams will have to consider the risk/reward scenario. But if he’s able to return to playing, they’ll be able to land a bonafide wide receiver.
